Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province has selected the winners for the 28th Yulgok Grand Prize, jointly promoted with the Gangwon Ilbo and the Yulgok Institute for National Studies: ▲ Academic Category: Lee Sang-ik, Professor at Busan National University of Education, and ▲ Meritorious Service Category: Kim Heung-sul, Former Director of Ojukheon & Gangneung City Museum.

The winners were finalized on September 30 through a rigorous evaluation process by the Yulgok Grand Prize Review Committee, consisting of six related experts from academia and other fields.

Established in 1999 based on the "Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Yulgok Grand Prize Ordinance," the Yulgok Grand Prize was created to honor the academic achievements of scholar Yulgok Yi I and to inherit his spirit of Musil-yeokhaeng (pragmatic action and dedication).

Each year, one person is selected in each field, such as academia and meritorious service, and awards are presented during the Yulgok Festival period (October 26).
Lee Sang-ik, the winner in the Academic Category, was recognized for his contributions to the succession and development of Yulgok studies, having deeply researched the philosophy and thought of Yulgok for 30 years.

Kim Heung-sul, the winner in the Meritorious Service Category, was recognized for his contributions to spreading the spirit of Yulgok widely while dedicating himself to local cultural research and the preservation and utilization of cultural heritage for about 30 years.

The awards ceremony is scheduled to be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, October 26, in the auditorium of the Yulgok Institute for National Studies in Gangneung, with attendees including the award recipients, heads of provincial organizations and institutions, and members of the Yulgok Society.
