Vientiane, Laos – The Ministry of Planning and Investment, in collaboration with Bokeo provincial officials, held a meeting on November 28th to discuss the construction of the Suvannakhomkham Buddha statue, which will become the largest seated Buddha statue in Laos.

The ambitious project will be situated on Kiu Lom Mountain within the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Ton Pheung District. The colossal statue, measuring 88 meters in height and 45 meters in width, will be meticulously crafted from a special metal to replicate the original Buddha statue in Donthat village. This design reflects traditional Lane Xang art and pays homage to the historical significance of Suvanna Khom Kham.

Drawing inspiration from ancient Lao Buddhist art, the statue will incorporate key elements such as the face, ears, and Sangha robes, emphasizing the unique characteristics of traditional Lao Buddha statues. The statue is envisioned to symbolize prosperity and spiritual protection for the local community while simultaneously fostering cultural and religious activities.

Beyond its religious and cultural significance, the project aims to preserve and promote Lao art and traditions by showcasing the skills of Lao artisans. Furthermore, it is expected to attract a significant number of both domestic and international visitors, contributing to the local economy and tourism sector.
