Disney Extends Support to Employees Affected by California Wildfires

Los Angeles, CA - The Walt Disney Company is actively supporting employees impacted by the recent devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County. At least 64 employees, including key executives such as the president of Disney Branded Television and the president of Walt Disney Music, have lost their homes due to the fires.

In response, Disney has implemented a comprehensive support program:

Temporary Housing: Hotel rooms at the Disneyland Resort are being made available to employees requiring immediate shelter.
Financial Assistance: The company's Employee Relief Fund is providing up to $4,000 per employee for basic necessities and other expenses.
Long-Term Housing: Employees unable to return to their homes will receive two months of free furnished housing.
Clothing Support: The studio wardrobe department is open to provide clothing and shoes to employees who lost their belongings in the fires.
CEO Leads Relief Efforts

Disney CEO Bob Iger is spearheading the company's response, announcing a $15 million donation to local disaster relief organizations. Iger has also proposed an innovative approach to rebuilding, suggesting that the company's Imagineers, renowned for their creative talents in designing and building Disney Parks, contribute their expertise to the redevelopment of fire-affected communities. "We want to help rebuild," Iger stated in an interview with The New York Times. "Can we help in setting up temporary schools? Can our Imagineers help design new town centers? Rebuilding is not just about money. It's about ingenuity and determination."

Impact on Imagineers

The Eaton Fire has significantly impacted many Imagineers, with several losing their homes in the Altadena area. Joe Rohde, a highly respected Imagineer known for his work on Animal Kingdom, Pandora – World of Avatar, and other iconic Disney projects, shared his personal experience of losing his home. "Most of the places where we all lived burnt to ashes," Rohde wrote on Instagram. "Altadena was our home and home base."

Disney's comprehensive support efforts demonstrate the company's commitment to its employees during this challenging time. By providing both immediate and long-term assistance, Disney aims to help its employees recover from this devastating event and rebuild their lives.
