Sokcho Port Welcomes 3 Cruise Calls and 5,000+ Visitors in October

Expectations rise for revitalizing the local economy in the Yeongdong region of Gangwon State through tourist spending, including sightseeing and shopping by cruise passengers.

Gangwon State (Governor Woo Sang-ho, hereinafter referred to as the "State") announced that cruise ships will make a total of three port calls at Sokcho Port on October 17, 19, and 25, with approximately 5,000 passengers and crew members expected to visit Gangwon State.

The cruise ships scheduled to arrive are the Westerdam and the Seabourn Encore. The Westerdam is scheduled to dock on October 17, and the Seabourn Encore will visit Sokcho Port twice, on October 19 and October 25. Notably, the Seabourn Encore will make its maiden port call at Sokcho Port on October 19.

The State plans to provide welcoming events and convenience services for cruise passengers and crew, including traditional Korean cultural experiences, tourist information, and shuttle bus operations. Furthermore, the State expects that various consumer activities by cruise tourists—such as touring the Yeongdong region, dining at local restaurants, and shopping—will breathe new life into local commercial districts.

Gangwon State Governor Woo Sang-ho emphasized, "We will strengthen tourist convenience and hospitality services so that cruise tourists can experience Gangwon State's diverse tourism resources and local culture, and we will strive to ensure that cruise tourism leads to the revitalization of the local economy."
