"A 6.0 Billion Won Gamble" ... Buyeo County Mayor Lee Yong-woo Opens the Era of Hydrogen Economy and Carbon Neutrality

Buyeo County Kicks Off the Era of Realizing Carbon Neutrality and Eco-Friendly AutomobilesBuilding Core Infrastructure to Resolve Hydrogen Vehicle Charging Inconvenience... Commercial Operation Scheduled for Early December

Buyeo County, South Chungcheong Province, has held a completion ceremony for a hydrogen charging station built with a project cost of 6.0 billion won, taking its first full-scale leap toward becoming an eco-friendly future city.

This development is drawing significant attention as it establishes a core foundation for realizing carbon neutrality and transitioning to eco-friendly energy, while resolving the lack of charging infrastructure—long pointed to as the biggest bottleneck to expanding hydrogen vehicle adoption. In particular, it is expected to greatly ease the inconvenience faced by local hydrogen vehicle users, who previously had to travel to neighboring regions due to a lack of charging facilities within the county, thereby accelerating the creation of an eco-friendly transportation environment that residents can feel in their daily lives.

On the 4th, Buyeo County held the "Buyeo County Hydrogen Charging Station Completion Ceremony" at around 4:00 PM (local time) near 406-5 Nabok-ri, Gyuam-myeon. The ceremony was attended by Buyeo County Mayor Lee Yong-woo, county officials, distinguished guests, and local residents, who celebrated the completion and shared a fresh start for Buyeo's eco-friendly energy transition.

The newly completed hydrogen charging station is a core eco-friendly infrastructure facility backed by 6.0 billion won in funding. It was promoted to build a foundation for carbon neutrality and the expansion of hydrogen vehicle adoption, lifting the region's eco-friendly transportation system to the next level. Previously, hydrogen car owners in Buyeo had to endure the inconvenience of traveling to nearby regions just to charge their vehicles due to insufficient local facilities. This lack of charging infrastructure has been cited as a major factor hindering the purchase and proliferation of hydrogen cars.

However, the completion of this charging station is expected to significantly improve local conditions for hydrogen vehicle users. Improved charging accessibility will not only enhance convenience for existing drivers but also exert a positive influence on the future expansion of eco-friendly vehicle adoption. Hydrogen vehicles do not emit exhaust gases such as carbon dioxide during operation, making them a promising future mode of transportation for improving air quality and achieving carbon neutrality. For Buyeo County—which boasts a rich history, culture, and a clean natural environment—expanding eco-friendly transportation infrastructure has become a crucial task to safeguard the region's environmental value and lay the foundation for sustainable development.

Buyeo County Mayor Lee Yong-woo evaluated the completion of this hydrogen charging station as a critical turning point for taking a leap toward an eco-friendly future city. Mayor Lee stated, "The completion of this hydrogen charging station is an important stepping stone for Buyeo County to advance as an eco-friendly future city. Moving forward, we will continuously expand eco-friendly infrastructure that residents can experience in their daily lives and steadily drive carbon neutrality policies forward."

Following the completion ceremony, Buyeo County plans to conduct thorough test runs and safety inspections before entering full-scale commercial operation for the general public in early December.

This project holds deep significance beyond simply expanding a single hydrogen charging facility; it serves as a starting point for Buyeo County's future energy policies and the establishment of an eco-friendly transportation system. However, to expand hydrogen vehicle distribution and maximize the practical utility of the charging infrastructure, stable facility operation, thorough safety management, and the establishment of a user-centric service system must be supported.

Carbon neutrality cannot be achieved through declarations alone. True results can only be reaped when eco-friendly infrastructure is expanded for residents to use in their daily lives, translating into real-life changes. Attention is focused on whether the Buyeo County hydrogen charging station, backed by 6.0 billion won, can serve as a practical priming water (catalyst) for expanding eco-friendly vehicle adoption and strengthening the competitiveness of a clean city.
