Governor Lee Cheol-woo: "Play without injury and leave no regrets"

The 107th National Sports Festival opens on the 16th, competing in 49 events over 7 days in Jeju

The Gyeongbuk sports delegation is aiming for a 3rd place overall finish at the 107th National Sports Festival, targeting a total of 342 medals, including 77 gold, 81 silver, and 184 bronze medals.

Gyeongbuk dispatched a delegation of 2,077 people to Jeju, consisting of 1,469 athletes and 608 officials. The delegation will compete in 49 events, joined by 46 national team athletes across 19 events.

Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor Lee Cheol-woo attended the opening ceremony of the National Sports Festival held in Jeju on the 16th. On the 17th, he visited the gymnasium of Jeju High School to watch the women's general division kendo match between the Gyeongju City Hall women's kendo team and the Chungnam selection team.

Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, "I am proud of the Gyeongbuk sports delegation, who have shed sweat and prepared hard for the National Sports Festival." He added, "Regardless of win or loss, I hope you will fully display the skills you have honed, play without injury and leave no regrets, and deliver pride and emotion to the residents. Together with the residents, we will cheer you on with all our might."

Swimmer Kim Seo-young (Gyeongbuk Provincial Office) and track and athlete Seo Ye-rim (Gyeongbuk Physical Education High School) are challenging for three gold medals. Sibling athletes, including basketball players Park Rae-hoon and Park Rae-yoon, judo athletes Huh Mimi and Huh Mio, and gymnasts Lee Jang-won and Lee Yun-seo, are also participating.

The 107th National Sports Festival is held in Jeju for 7 days from the 16th to the 22nd. Around 30,000 people, including athletes from 17 cities and provinces nationwide and overseas Korean sports delegations, are participating.

Gyeongsangbuk-do plans to support athletes so they can perform at their best in a stable environment and enhance the competitiveness of Gyeongbuk sports.
